A major portion of an under construction flyover bridge collapsed near Bomikhal in Odisha today. In the mishap, one person was killed whereas 12 others including few labourers and a minor girl were injured. Around 15 labourers were engaged in construction work when the flyover collapsed.
Chief Minister Navin Pattanaik has expressed grief at the unfortunate incident. He has announced Rs 5 lakh exgratia for the next of kin of the deceased. He has also assured free treatment for the injured. The injured are being admitted to the Capital Hospital, AIIMS and other hospitals.
The rescue operation is still on and local police, fire brigade and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) is engaged in carrying out the massive operation. Already two engineers have been suspended after the collapse. The state government has assured of strict action against those who are guilty.
