Life term imprisonment killing wives

Two persons of Nayagarh and Mayurbhanj  were sentenced to life term imprisonment by the respective local courts Tuesday and Wednesday for killing their wives.
Mayurbhanj  district and sessions judge Ajay Kumar  Mohanty  sentenced Govind Murmu of Kukund under Mahuldiha police limits to lifetime imprisonment Wednesday . The judge also slapped a fine of Rs, 10,000, on failure of the payment of which he would have to serve another year of jail term, the verdict said .
Reportedly, the accused, a daily labourer had asked his wife Laxmi to prepare chicken curry on the night of August 14,2011. As she expressed her inability to do so due to illness, the former, losing his temper , started beating her up mercilessly, as a result she died.
When the neighbours rushed her to Karanjia community health centre in a critical state, the doctors declared her dead. Police , on the basis of the complaints lodged by her family members registered a murder case and attested murmur. Since then, he was in hyducuak custody. On the basis of the statement of 13 witnesses, the judge pronounced the verdict.
In a similar case , the additional district and sessions’ judge’s court of Nayagarh Tuesday sentenced a man of Jodasahi village under Odagaon police limits here to life imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs,10,000 on him after  convicting him of murdering his wife in 2012.
The additional district and sessions judge Purna Chandra Pand  convicted Ababta Nahak after going through the police chargesheet and examining the statements recorded by seven witnesses. In case Nahak  fails to pay the fine, he has to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment, the judge observed while delivering the order.
According to the case diary Nahak married Saria of the same village in 2011. Their relationship turned sour after he started suspecting  her fidelity .
On the fateful night of April 26, 2012 Nahak strangulated her to death in sleep .
Police arrested him over a complaint filed by Saria’s  father and produced him in the court April 27. Since then Nahak was serving as an undertrial in Nayagarh was serving as an undertrial in Nayagarh sub-jail.
