Odisha gets Krishi Karman Award

Odisha gets Krishi Karman Award for the fourth time in total foodgrains (Category-II) for 2014-15 Bhubaneswar, 19.3.2016 Odisha gets Krishi Karman Award today in total foodgrains (Category-II) for 2014-15. Our state had achieved a record foodgrain production of 118 lakh 24 thosand tonne in 2014-15. This is for the fourth time that our State got Krishi Karman Award. The award consists of a trophy, citation and cash amount of Rs. 5.00 crore. Krishi Karman Award was given by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today at a special function held at IARI, Pusa, New Delhi. Minister, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Sri Pradeep Maharathy received the award on behalf of Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik. In addition, as a gesture of appreciation to farmers of our State for achieving this milestone, two progressive farmers, i.e. one male and one female, were also given “Agriculture Minister’s Krishi Karman Award for Progressive farmers” at the award function. Each farmer got cash award of Rs. 2.00 lakh along with a PRASHASHTI PATRA from Sri Radhamohan Singh, Union Minister, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. Sri Dillip Kumar Baral of village Resinga, Nimapara block of Puri Dist. got Progressive Farmers’ Award for record moong production and Smt. Anita Patel of village Khairatikri, Sonepur block of Subarnapur Dist. got the award for record paddy production. Agriculture Dept., Govt. of Odisha had selected Sri Baral and Smt. Patel earlier amongst cultivators cultivating either cereals or pulses crops. They had contributed the maximum to the State- food basket for the awards. The performance of these two farmers were backed by evidence of assessments in crop cutting experiments and other methods of documentation of production conducted by the State during the year 2014- 15. Sri Baral had been able to achieve a record 21 quintal moong production per hectare whereas Smt. Patel achieved a record 36 quintal paddy production. Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Cooperation and Director, Agriculture & Food Production Sri Pramod Kumar Mehera were also present at the Krishi Karman Award Ceremony. Manas
