ON OFFING: SAND ART PARK AT PURI
CHIEF SECRETARY ADVISES TO DEVELOP THE PARK AS A TOURISM PROJECT.
Bhubaneswar, 16th July :In another step towards promotion of tourism and art, Govt has initiated steps for establishment of a Sand Art Park at Puri. This has been considered in a high level meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Jugal Kishore Mohapatra in the secretariat conference hall today wherein secretary Tourism & Culture Dr Arabinda Padhee outlined various prospects of the proposed project. Considering the proposal, Chief Secretary Sri Mohapatra has advised to develop it as a tourism project. Sri Mohapatra has also advised Dr. Padhee to prepare detail project report indicating the organizational structure, source of finance, timeline for implementation etc and put to Govt for approval.
It has been discussed to create an institutional base for the project in shape of a society with sufficient autonomy for functioning. It has also been considered that the land required for the purpose will be provided to the department free of premium. Chief Secretary Sri Mohapatra has advised to constitute a site selection committee for the project. It is learnt that around 2 to 3 acers of land will be required to develop the park. The main objectives of the project include attracting tourists to the beach town, educate and train budding talents on sand art and provide amusement to amateur artists. The project envisages to provide the services like regular training classes for interested artists, sort term course for tourists, creation of a sand sculpture gallery of international standard, establishment of a sand art photo gallery and sand animation studio. Chief Secretary has advised the department to utilize the expertise and experiences of internationally known Odia sand artist Sri Sudarshan Pattanaik in the planning and implementation of the project.
The Additional Chief Secretary Revenue & Disaster Management Dr. Taradatt, Sand Artist SriSudarshan Pattnaik along with other senior officers participated in the deliberations.
