Cuttack: OBB: There have been several survey reports showing the role of social networking websites which holds the major impact on the Lok Sabha poll results. Now a day’s political parties are conscious about online campaigning and objectively tries to reach the youth mass . However, a new survey by OBB gives a reality on the matter of youth and social media and Politics.
Youth using Social Media focused by Politicians
Internet users of our country may not have crossed 16% of the population yet, but the 16% if calculated, in absolute numbers which is approx 10 times of the population of Australia.
At the beginning of this year, the nation had crossed the 200 million mark, says a report released by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IMAI) and IMRB. The report estimates 243 million internet users in the country by June 2014, overtaking the US as the world’s second largest internet base after China. As for the survey 16 % of Indians use the Internet and among them 50 % use social networking sites. And some of them, who prefer to use these platforms to discuss politics, are just 35 %. The survey reports says about youth is, they use Internet to share or watch music and videos, and the percentage is about 81% and rest would like to be in touch with their near and dears.
As this is the era of portable devices, gadgets and lots of stuff. So we ask about any particular activities on internet and devices they prefer to use Internet on? The report is like as casual in youth, more than 70% use cell phones, for texting and sharing images using their favorite and cool apps. Few of them like 8% of them share political views via cell phones.
According to the report of IAMAI, political parties are spending about 2-5% of their budget on boosting their online campaigning. As the social media is the only way to get the new upcoming voter and online campaigning may increase the numbers of voters of 3-5% in nation.

This is a perfect Election season and Perfect Time to Show the unity among the party workers, as a result rallies, parties are organized and debates are being made in favor of public. The fact is how it actually effective for a youth, so we asked some of the youths of streets around Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Percentage we got is 85% having same thought for rallies. When we ask for the reasons, the explanation is quite friendly, most of the youth want to show them self’s as “Chella” means followers to the leader. And those are very much fund to have biryani and beer party after the rally with the party workers. They love to wander here and there with flags and slogan and gang of friends over bikes and the petrol which supplied by the party. And after that They share those photos and videos over social media, and discuss how they enjoyed the rally.
